Act Now

Here are some materials AHEAD used in 2007, in the fight against the proposed Gross Receipts Tax.

It is always helpful to call or visit your legislator, and to encourage your employees to do the same. A personal contact will have far more impact than any other action.

Contacting your legislator is the most important step you can take to defeat this bill.

A personal visit with your legislator is the most powerful action you can take, followed by a phone conversation. A personalized written letter is very helpful in reinforcing your message.

Compose your letter after reading the background material provided and the Helpful Hints document below.

Send a letter, at a minimum, to the Senator and Representative who represent your home and business addresses. Send the letter to the legislator’s district (local) office and fax a copy to their Springfield office. You can find out your legislators and their contact information by entering your address into this site: Find your legislators here.

Please feel free to utilize our sample letters below as ideas for format and content. Please, please write a personal letter based on these ideas, those in the general background material provided on the “Talking Points” page, and on the ideas in the Helpful Hints document. Form letters are easily identifiable by legislators and carry little weight.

THE STRUCTURAL WORK ACT (Scaffold Act) IS BACK

A bill to reinstate this law was reintroduced in Springfield this spring, but it was never called for a floor vote.

Thanks to all of you who voiced your opposition to your legislators!
