Here are some materials to use in fighting the proposed Structural Work Act.

The most important thing you can do is to call or visit your legislator, and to encourage your employees to do the same. A personal contact will have far more impact than any other action.

  • You are an employer, and you provide [rough number] of high-paying skilled jobs. You pay a good wage, and you provide benefits.
  • Describe your business in a sentence or two.
  • The proposed SWA would cost you significantly in terms of increased insurance costs, as well as costs to remove your business from unfounded third-party lawsuits in which you have no liability.
  • A single accident could put you out of business, regardless of your actual liability in the incident.
  • Indicate how many jobs would be lost, and how many families would be impacted.
  • If you are considering leaving the state, indicate why that would be attractive.
  • Urge strong opposition to the SWA.
  • If you or your employees are in a legislator’s district, emphasize this.
  • You’ve worked hard and played by the rules; you’ve paid plenty of taxes and created jobs; this legislation jeopardizes your business and your employees.
